My name is Tammy Shaw, and I live with my family in beautiful Southern Arizona! I am married to a wonderful man, Doug, and I have four precious children, Brittany – 17 years old, Matthew – 11 years old, Samuel - 4 years old, and David - 3 years old. Samuel and David were both adopted from Russia. (CLICK HERE to read about our adoption) Doug and I had discussed the possibility of adoption on and off for several years, and recently we felt that God was preparing us to take the big step. So - after years of contemplating, months of prayer, and weeks of research - here we are - a family of six! And of course, our family story wouldn't be complete without mentioning our 2 dogs – Bali, a Jack Russell Terrier and Skinny, a Lab-Shepherd mix. Although I was born in Chicago, I spent most of my growing-up years in La Porte, Indiana – a small town near Lake Michigan. In my younger days I enjoyed golfing, swimming and water skiing. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Valparaiso University (Indiana) in 1982, and my Master’s degree from Wright State University (Ohio) in Mental Health Counseling in 1985. I spent nearly 10 years working as a counselor at American Lake Veteran’s Administration hospital in Tacoma, WA before deciding to dedicate my time and talents to my children and family. I began home schooling our daughter
in first grade.
Home education has truly been a blessing to our family, and we are thankful
the Lord led us down this challenging yet fruitful path. Whether home
schooling becomes a way of life for your family – or simply your choice
during the early years – it is my hope that with His help, Bright Beginnings
will be an inspiration and a guide to you and your child along the way! |
